二十八届世界人口大会在南非开普敦举行，共有1500多名国际学术界人士和相关政府机构负责人参与。上海大学亚洲人口研究中心蒋耒文、顾宝昌、Samir KC、朱宇、Guy Abel、张羽, 社会学院计迎春，博士生 Amr Abdelwehed（10月29日，第二十八届世界人口大会在南非开普敦举行，共有1500多名国际学术界人士和相关政府机构负责人参与。上海大学亚洲人口研究中心蒋耒文、顾宝昌、Samir KC、朱宇、Guy Abel、张羽, 社会学院计迎春，博士生 Amr Abdelwehed（埃及）和吴颖机参加了此次会议。非洲大陆人口持续快速增长和因人口增长导致的各种问题是本次大会的重点议题。
该大会由联合国下属的国际人口科学研究联盟（International Union for the Scientific Study of Population；IUSSP）举办，每四年一届。大会宗旨是致力于推动各国政府、国际间的政府组织、非政府组织及公众对人口问题的关注，提倡把人口学作为一门科学来对待。其活动主要有每4年召开一次的国际人口科学大会；举行区域性的人口专业会议及有关人口的各种专业性会议；开展学术活动、举办培训项目；向最欠发达国家的人口机构提供赞助；出版历届人口科学大会的论文集及下属委员会的研究成果。

Samir KC教授在"Education and health: Pathways and cross-national perspectives"分论坛和"International perspectives on fertility transition"分论坛做了题目为"Education differential in Mortality: Past, Present, and the Future"和"Predicting Indian fertility in light of education"的报告。
会议期间，Samir教授同来自国际应用系统分析协会（IIASA）的相关学者在亚洲人口中心展台就共同开发的世界多元人口预测R语言包进行了会议展示介绍，并借此机会与本年四月参加亚洲国家人口预测工作坊的相关学者商讨择机举办第二次工作坊事宜，交流各国研究推进情况。

人口研究中心的博士生吴颖机参加了＂Population and development II＂的墙报分论坛展示,与来自世界不同国家的学者交流了自己的研究思路同时听取了他们的修改建议。同时吴颖机参与了亚洲人口研究中心的展台展示和介绍，向来自世界各地的学者介绍亚洲人口中心做的研究和举办的学术交流活动。
此外，亚洲人口研究中心还在会议展示厅设立了专门展台（展位20），向来自各国的学者介绍中心的具体研究方向、研究人员、招生项目、合作研究等，旨在扩大中心影响力。
